Breast Center at TCI

The MemorialCare Breast Center at Long Beach Medical Center's MemorialCare Todd Cancer Institute is one of the 10 best breast centers in America, according to Self magazine, due to our commitment to early detection and accurate breast cancer diagnosis. Philanthropic support helps offer state-of-the-art technology from digital mammography to breast MRI, on-site multidisciplinary experts, planning conferences for treatments, support groups, second opinion services and clinical research. At the MemorialCare Breast Center, our specialized health care professionals treat every woman diagnosed with breast cancer with quality, compassionate care utilizing the latest technology.

Stroke Care

Long Beach Medical Center is only the third hospital in Los Angeles County to be a Joint Commission Certified Comprehensive Stroke Center. With this certification, Long Beach Medical Center joins an elite group of health care organizations focused on highly specialized stroke care. To be eligible, hospitals must demonstrate compliance with stroke-related standards as a Primary Stroke Center and meet additional requirements, including those related to advanced imaging capabilities, 24/7 availability of specialized treatments and providing staff with the unique education and competencies to care for complex stroke patients.

Long Beach Medical Center is a dedicated Stroke Receiving Center for Los Angeles County – providing patients with advanced treatment options and a highly trained stroke team is on-hand 24/7, making fast response times and positive outcomes a reality.

Todd Cancer Insitute (TCI)

The MemorialCare Todd Cancer Institute (TCI) at Long Beach Medical Center is committed to helping patients overcome the challenges of cancer in the state-of-the-art Todd Cancer Pavilion. TCI provides an inspirational environment where patients, families and an expert care team work together to develop individualized treatment plans.

The MemorialCare Todd Cancer Institute is dedicated to the early diagnosis, research, treatment and education of patients with cancer or serious blood disorders. At the forefront of cancer management are the divisions of gynecologic, breast, thoracic, gastrointestinal and genitourinary. Treatments include radiation therapy, genetic counseling, minimally invasive surgery including robotic-assisted surgery, and systemic therapies that can include chemotherapy, immunotherapy and biologics.

Through multi-disciplinary treatment planning conferences, TCI specialists review new or difficult cases and develop treatment plans suited to the specific needs of each patient. Personalized care developed for the unique needs of each patient is a clinical reality at TCI.

Areas to Support at Miller Children's & Women's Hospital Long Beach

At MemorialCare Miller Children’s & Women’s Hospital Long Beach, we’re dedicated exclusively to the quality and compassionate care of kids and expectant moms. Only five percent of all hospitals are children’s hospitals, making them unique not only to children’s health care needs in the community, but across the region. We’re one of only eight free-standing children’s hospitals in California. We’re a not-for-profit, pediatric teaching hospital that treats more than 8,000 children each year and has become a regional pediatric destination for more than 84,000 children, who need specialized care in our outpatient specialty and satellite centers. Our Cherese Mari Lauhlere BirthCare Center delivers more than 6,000 babies each year and receives nearly 100 transported high-risk moms. More than 750 pediatric specialists and sub-specialists, as well as nearly 100 OB/GYNs, including 10 high-risk pregnancy specialists (maternal-fetal specialists), ensure that the highest quality, compassionate care is given to each patient and their family.

Bickerstaff Family Center

The Bickerstaff Pediatric Family Center at Miller Children’s & Women's Hospital Long Beach cares for infants, children, adolescents and pregnant women who are at risk for, or infected with, HIV/AIDS, acute community-acquired illnesses, chronic infections and other immunological disorders. Board-certified infectious disease physicians and the care team also advise on immunization and infectious disease prevention.

The Bickerstaff Center offers a multi-disciplinary, family centered care approach through their HIV and Infectious Disease Care programs. In partnership with the National Institute of Health (NIH), the Bickerstaff Center participates in national research studies, such as International Maternal, Pediatric and Adolescent AIDS Clinical Trials Group (IMPAACT), to determine successful treatment regimens. The Bickerstaff team provides more than 7,000 hospital consultations for children staying overnight at
Miller Children’s and outpatient follow-up visits annually. The Bickerstaff care team often works closely with other pediatric specialists.

Cherese Mari Laulhere BirthCare Center

The BirthCare Center at Miller Children’s & Women's Hospital Long Beach offers complete outpatient maternity care, through programs in fetal diagnostic care, OB/GYN outpatient care, and an outpatient lactation program. Perinatologists, OB/GYN’s, breastfeeding lactation consultants, labor & delivery nurses and the entire outpatient maternity health care team work hand-in-hand to provide appropriate evaluations and design a comprehensive care plan to help expectant mothers have a safe, healthy and, as full-term as possible, pregnancy.

Cherese Mari Laulhere Children's Village

It takes a village to care for sick children, and MemorialCare Miller Children’s & Women’s Hospital Long Beach is beginning our journey to build the Cherese Mari Laulhere Children’s Village. When completed in 2021, the Children’s Village will be an 80,000 sq. ft., four-story building on the Miller Children’s & Women’s campus that provides a one-stop-shop approach to care.

As one of only eight free-standing children’s hospitals in California, we treat more than 65,000 children who need ongoing specialized follow-up care. Currently, Miller Children’s & Women’s provides ongoing care for patients in a variety of medical offices throughout Long Beach.

The unique setting of the Children’s Village will bring all of Miller Children’s & Women’s pediatric specialties under one roof, allowing families to receive all the care they need in one easy to access location.

Medical care doesn’t end when a child leaves the hospital. Patients will be seen at the Children’s Village for a variety of reasons — from a one-time consultation to treatments for acute, chronic and surgical conditions.

Cherese Mari Laulhere Child Life Program

The Cherese Mari Laulhere Child Life Program was developed to help make the hospital experience a more positive one for children of all ages. The award-winning Child Life Program at Miller Children’s Hospital Long Beach has provided nearly 35 years of patient and family centered care to patients, ages 0 to 21, offering developmental, educational and emotional support. Child Life Specialists plan individualized and group programs that help children adjust to their hospital stay and promote the continuity of normal, daily childhood activities.

Cherese Mari Laulhere Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU)

This fund will support the continued operation of the newly renovated and expanded Cherese Marie Laulhere PICU at Miller Children’s.

Our 30-bed Cherese Mari Laulhere Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU) provides care to toddlers, children and teenagers who become critically ill or injured. Critical care is comprehensive care for patients whose condition may be life-threatening or who may require constant monitoring.

Pediatric Orthopedics

Because kids are constantly growing and developing, they need specialized pediatric orthopedic care that only a children’s hospital like Miller Children’s & Women’s can provide.

Fully integrated, state-of-the-art orthopedic care is available for children from birth to 21-years-of-age with developmental disorders, congenital, neuromuscular and post-traumatic problems of the musculoskeletal system.

Stramski Children's Developmental Center

The Stramski Children’s Developmental Center at Miller Children’s & Women's is a comprehensive center that cares for children — from birth to age 21 — with behavioral and developmental conditions, such as autism, Fragile X, ADHD/ADD, Down Syndrome, learning disabilities, behavioral sleep conditions, craniofacial abnormalities and cleft lip and palate. The Stramski Center often serves as the transitional care center for infants and toddlers, who have developmental delay following hospitalization in either the NICU or PICU — many times following the child’s care for years.

Comprehensive, multi-disciplinary care at the Stramski Center includes Behavioral and Psychological Testing, Neurodevelopment, Craniofacial, Sleep Disorders, High Risk Infant Follow-Up, Genetics, and Fragile X programs that are designed to help manage a child’s illness and improve their developmental outcomes. The Stramski Center has a unique Craniofacial core team that works closely with plastic surgery to repair cleft lip and palate. The Stramski Center also houses an International Adoption Program that provides consultation, evaluation and counseling to families that are in the process of adopting a child from another country. The Stramski Children’s Developmental Center receives tremendous community support, especially from the Steel Magnolias and the Memorial Medical Center Foundation.
