LINX is the most recent procedure for treating GERD and has proved to be highly effective in relieving severe GERD symptoms completely. The LINX procedure consists of implanting a flexible titanium bracelet with a core of magnetic beads that encircles the malfunctioning lower esophageal sphincter (LES). The magnetic attraction between the beads helps keep the weak LES closed to reinforce the body’s natural barrier to reflux. Food goes down and doesn’t come back up. The patient’s reflux disappears immediately after surgery. Other procedures require a liquid diet for a few days following surgery, but with LINX, patients can have regular food the day after it’s implanted.
