Overview
“Utility of Amniotic Fluid Analysis for Intrapartum Infection Prediction Model”
Intrauterine infection or inflammation can develop while a patient is in labor and potentially cause maternal and/or neonatal morbidity. Exposure to intrauterine infection or inflammation can increase the risk of adverse events. The novelty of this study would include examining the amniotic fluid results in term patients in labor with a commonly used device in labor, thus avoiding the invasive approach of previous studies. This study would use an intrauterine pressure catheter (IUPC), which is commonly used in the laboring patient for several indications. This conduit can thus be used to serially monitor amniotic fluid parameters to potentially identify levels indicative of an impending infection.
