Child Life General Volunteer

This program is for individuals who wish to interact with patients of all ages and their family members, and who want to gain general experience working with children in the hospital setting. Volunteers help the Child Life team by running hospital playroom sessions, through setting up activities, engaging children in play, and assisting with clean up when the playroom session closes.

Requirements: All volunteers must be 18 years of age or older, and have previous experience working/volunteering with children

When: Opportunities 7 days a week

Child Life Student Volunteer

This program is for college students in need of fieldwork hours for a course, or for people interested in gaining the necessary volunteer hours to pursue a career as a Child Life Specialist. Volunteers provide activities to patients of all ages in the hospital playroom setting, provide comfort and play items to patients and families in their rooms, and assist the Child Life team with toy sanitation, distributing community donations, and special events.

Requirements: All volunteers must be 18 years of age or older, and have previous experience working/volunteering with children.

When: Opportunities 7 days a week

Hospital Grandparents

This program is for individuals who are interested in working with pediatric patients of all ages. Volunteers engage with children one-on-one in their rooms, playing with toys, reading stories, holding infants, and talking with adolescents. Volunteers are oriented to several hospital units and are trained so that they can work independently during their volunteer time.

Requirements: All volunteers must be 21 years of age or older, have extensive experience with children of all ages, and be prepared to perform physical duties such as lifting and walking long distances.

When: Opportunities 7 days a week

Shifts: 9:00 AM - 10:00 PM

Hospital School Volunteer

The volunteer will work with school-aged patients directly, helping them stay current with homework assignments.

Requirements: All volunteers must be 18 years of age or older. Experience working with children in an educational environment is preferred.

When: Monday - Friday

Shifts: 9:00 AM - 12:00 PM 
1:00 PM - 3:00 PM

Music Volunteers

The music therapy program utilizes volunteers in two different capacities. Hallway Musicians are professional-caliber musicians that play the violin, viola, cello, or piano, and have at least one hour of non-repeating repertoire. Musicians are posted in common areas (hallways of units, lobbies) to provide a calming environment to patients, families and guests. Music Therapy volunteers work alongside the music therapists to assist in cleaning instruments, passing out instruments/equipment to patients, and supplementing music therapy visits. Volunteers must be able to play at least one of the following on an intermediate level: piano, guitar, or ukulele.

Requirements: All volunteers must be 18 years of age or older.

When: Monday - Friday

Shifts: 10:00 AM - 4:00 PM

Pet Therapy Volunteers (Pediatric Patients)

This program is for individuals who are interested in working with pediatric patients of all ages. Volunteers engage with children one-on-one in their rooms. Volunteers are oriented to several hospital units and are trained so that they can work independently during their volunteer time.

Requirements: All volunteers must be 21 years of age or older, have extensive experience with children of all ages, and be prepared to perform physical duties such as lifting and walking long distances. Pets must be certified through Pet Partners and provide a copy of certification. Volunteers are required to provide copies of shot records which include: Rabies, Parvo, Distemper, Hepatitis & or DA2pp (Combo vaccine with Distemper, Hepatitis, &Parvo). All Pets must be bathed before hospital visits.

Pediatric Rehabilitation Volunteer

This program is for individuals who wish to interact with pediatric patients of all ages who receive occupational, physical, speech, and recreational therapies in the outpatient and hospital settings. Volunteers contribute to the therapy team in a variety of ways: set-up/clean-up of treatment sessions, assist therapists during individual therapy sessions, and help maintain the cleanliness and organization of the department.

Requirements: All volunteers must be 18 years of age or older; previous experience working/volunteering with children is preferred.

When: Monday - Friday

Shifts: 8:30am - 12:30pm, 12:30pm - 4:30pm
