PTO: vacation, holiday and sick leave

Our fully integrated Paid Time Off (PTO) policy provides time off for holidays, rest and relaxation, or while you or a family member is recovering from a temporary illness or injury. PTO can be used as they are accrued.

Employee assistance program

At MemorialCare, we understand that personal problems occasionally arise, and you may need to seek outside professional advice. Our employee assistance program helps employees and their immediate family develop and maintain a lifestyle that supports good health and productivity. The program provides free, confidential counseling, assessment, referral and follow-up. EAP services are at no cost to the employee and all services are completely confidential.

Professional Advancement Program (PAP)

The Professional Advancement Program at MemorialCare Long Beach Medical Center (LBMC) is designed to recognize the clinical excellence of Registered Nurses (RNs) seeking advancement based on Benner’s novice to expert levels of practice (Benner, 1984).

  • Promotes evidence-based practice and nursing research
  • Promotes the development of leadership qualities of an individual RN
  • Ensures engagement of RNs at the organizational level
  • Evaluate the level of an RN’s expertise as well as areas for development
  • Levels are structured incrementally to represent increasing authority, accountability, and autonomy accompanied by monetary remuneration.

The PAP recognizes 5 levels of clinical practice:

The professional role of the RN is defined to include:
  • Clinical Practice, leadership, education, research, consultation, communication, collaboration, and coordination
  • Criteria include organizational expectations (iABCS), job-specific competencies, and participation in additional elements such as Lean Workshops, Evidence-Based Practice Fellowships, a Mentorship program, etc.

Advancement Program for Professional Staff (APPlS) Program

The Advancement Program for Professional Staff (APPlS) is a program developed by nurses from both MemorialCare Orange Coast Medical Center (OCMC) and MemorialCare Saddleback Medical Center (SMC). Multiple pathways are available:

  • Full- and Part-Time Clinical Nurses
  • Clinical Supervisors/House Supervisors/Administrative House Officers
  • Care Managers

This opportunity provides recognition and reward for the professional nurse who demonstrates integrity and a high level of engagement in promoting the practice and image of nursing.

Benefits include:
  • Salary increase that is in addition to your annual evaluation pay increase
  • Applicant may opt to level up, maintain the current level, level down, or remove themselves from the APPlS program based on their availability to the time commitment

Silver Beacon Award for Excellence

In 2023, the American Association of Critical-Care Nurses (AACN) honored Saddleback Medical Center's ICU with the Silver Beacon Award, recognizing it as one of the nation's top hospital critical care units. According to the AACN, for patients and their families, this award "signifies exceptional care through improved outcomes and greater overall satisfaction." For nurses, it "signals a positive and supportive work environment with greater collaboration between colleagues and leaders, higher morale and lower turnover." The award is active for three years.

Simply Better Trust

The purpose of the Simply Better Trust is to improve the patient and family experience by empowering staff to create an extraordinary experience when appropriate or to provide service recovery when a patient/family member has been inconvenienced by a service issue. Our nurses can use up to $100 in purchasing an item for their patients.
