Patients whose pain has not been controlled with more conservative therapies, may be candidates for an Intrathecal Pump. An Intrathecal Pump is a device that continuously administers pain medication directly into the spinal fluid to relieve pain or muscle spasm. There are two phases of the Intrathecal Pump process; trial and permanent placement (if the trial was successful). All patients must undergo a psychological assessment by a neuropsychologist prior to the procedure. The benefits of this procedure may include decreased pain, increased ability to perform activities of daily living, decreased need for oral medications and decreased side effects from oral medications.
When everyday activities such as walking, shopping or working become difficult and unbearable, it may be time to seek professional care. Whether you have a long-term or recent spine problem, our experts will evaluate, diagnose and treat your spine issue with specialized skill and care.
