In response to the growing need within our community for advanced heart and vascular care, Orange Coast Medical Center worked with leading heart specialists to develop MemorialCare Heart & Vascular Institute, an institute that truly meets our community's needs.

Nationally Recognized Excellence in Cardiothoracic Surgery
The MemorialCare Heart & Vascular Institute at Orange Coast Medical Center has earned the highest possible distinctions from The Society of Thoracic Surgeons (STS)—three-star ratings for its patient care and outcomes in isolated coronary artery bypass grafting (CABG) procedures for the sixth consecutive reporting cycle and for multi-Procedural cases for the second consecutive time—placing it among the nation's elite cardiothoracic surgery programs. No other hospital in Orange County holds both honors, underscoring Orange Coast Medical Center's commitment to exceptional patient outcomes, safety, and quality in both standard and complex cardiac surgeries. The STS star rating system is one of the most sophisticated and highly regarded measures of quality in health care, rating the benchmarked outcomes of cardiothoracic surgery programs in the U.S. and Canada. Approximately 20% of STS participants earn a three-star rating in the CABG category, and even fewer sustain this performance across multiple reporting cycles.
Annie Capaldi Heart Revitalization Suite
The MemorialCare Heart & Vascular Institute at Orange Coast Medical Center is one of the first hospitals in the nation to introduce a hybrid interventional operating room, a state-of-the-art cardiac operating room and cardiovascular catheterization lab combined. This revolutionary new suite, located in Orange County, is one of only a handful in the country. Annie's suite is designed for open-heart surgeries such as cardiac bypass, as well as minimally invasive catheter-based cardiovascular procedures like angioplasty. Annie's suite also allows cardiac surgeons to perform diagnostic testing during and at the end of cardiac surgery.
