About Me

Dr. Youssef Shaban is a fellowship-trained and double board-certified trauma & general surgeon who specializes in trauma and emergency/acute care surgery as well as surgical critical care with Surgical Affiliates in Long Beach.

His clinical interests include surgical infection prevention, surgical outcomes and translational research involving the care of trauma patients and the critically ill.

He received his medical degree from Nova Southeastern University College of Osteopathic Medicine in Fort Lauderdale and completed his general surgery residency at Kendall Regional Medical Center in Miami where he served as chief surgical resident. He then completed his fellowship in trauma/surgical critical care at the University of California Irvine (UCI) Medical Center. Dr. Shaban was awarded the 2022 Eastern Association for the Surgery of Trauma (EAST) Oriens Award at the EAST 35th Annual Scientific Assembly. Dr. Shaban is board-certified in general surgery and board-eligible for surgical critical care by the American Board of Surgery.

Dr. Shaban is actively engaged in research and his work has been published in multiple peer-reviewed publications. He has presented at and is a member of the American College of Surgeons (ACS), Eastern Association for the Surgery of Trauma (EAST), and the Chest Wall Injury Society (CWIS).

Dr. Shaban is an avid University of Florida football fan (Go Gators!). “Do all the good you can, by all the mean you can, in all the ways you can, in all the places you can, at all the times you can, to all the people you can, as long as you ever can”, attributed to John Wesley, 1703 – 1791, embodies his perspective on life and career.
