About
Oluwatomisin (“Tomi”) Obafemi, MD is a board-certified cardiothoracic surgeon specializing in valvular heart disease, aortic surgery and coronary artery disease. His clinical interests include advanced reconstructive valve procedures, complex aortic pathology, and mechanical circulatory support. Before joining Long Beach Memorial Medical Group, Dr. Obafemi completed his residency at Stanford University in Palo Alto, California.
Dr. Obafemi is passionate about advancing surgical techniques and educating patients about their treatment options so they can make informed decisions about their care. He leads his practice with compassionate, patient-centered values and finds the greatest professional fulfillment in providing life-changing treatments that allow patients to return to the activities and people they love.
Born in Nigeria and raised in New Zealand, Dr. Obafemi developed an early interest in medicine through the example of his father, a physician. As a former track and field athlete, he became fascinated by the cardiovascular system and the remarkable capabilities of the human heart, a curiosity that ultimately led him to pursue a career in cardiac surgery.
Outside of medicine, Dr. Obafemi enjoys cycling, traveling, and experiencing new cuisines. He is currently learning Spanish and Yoruba and spends his free time playing basketball and table tennis, watching movies, and spending time with family and friends.
