About Me

Dr. Maureen Bocian is a medical geneticist specializing in the diagnosis and management of genetic syndromes, birth defects, and genetically-based intellectual disabilities. She has particular interests in chromosomal abnormalities, neurofibromatosis, craniofacial disorders, prenatal genetics, and skeletal dysplasias. Her research interests include new syndrome identification; variability, heterogeneity, and natural history of genetic disorders; and the genetic basis of autism. She is a Professor of Pediatrics in the UC Irvine School of Medicine and has been a full-time faculty member since 1979. She is Director of the UC Irvine Medical Genetics Residency Program. Dr. Bocian is Board Certified in Clinical Genetics, Clinical Cytogenetics, and Pediatrics and is a Fellow of the American College of Medical Genetics and of the American Academy of Pediatrics. She is also a member of the American Society of Human Genetics and the Western Society for Pediatric Research. Dr. Bocian has been listed five times among the Best Doctors in America and has received three UC Irvine School of Medicine Excellence in Teaching awards.
