About
Julie Schafer, DO was drawn to medicine through a combination of passions—her love of science, her desire to help people, her interest in understanding the human body, and her commitment to building meaningful connections within her community.
When working with patients, Dr. Schafer says she gets the most satisfaction in, “Seeing my patients take charge of their health and engage in their care. I strive to provide patient-centered care and am an empathetic listener. I have a passion for nutrition and exercise as well as women’s health.”
As a family medicine physician, Dr. Schafer enjoys caring for the whole family, from children to adolescents to adults and elderly patients. She adds, “I also provide gender affirming care.”
Dr. Schafer studied biology at UC San Diego, earned her medical degree at Western University of Health Sciences College of Osteopathic Medicine in Pomona, CA and completed her residency training in family medicine in Long Beach. She believes in a patient-centered approach that focuses on the whole person, emphasizing exercise, nutrition, and healthy habits as essential parts of wellness.
Outside of medicine, she enjoys running, playing tennis, traveling, reading, and spending time with her family and dog.

Outstanding Care for Military Service MembersGrowing up in a Hispanic household, I was always hesitant about doctors, hospitals, and medications unless absolutely necessary. That made finding a doctor I felt comfortable with very important. She has been professional, approachable, and genuinely attentive throughout my recovery. As a military Reservist using TRICARE Reserve Select, I also appreciated how well she navigated the insurance process, handled issues, and made everything easier. My monthly follow-ups have helped me stay confident in my recovery and reduced a lot of the stress that comes with being injured. I never feel rushed, and I feel like my progress is actually being monitored. I would highly recommend her to other military service members, especially Reservists using TRICARE Reserve Select, who want a reliable, professional, and caring doctor.

I’ve always been a little hesitant when it comes to doctors, hospitals, medications, and medical treatment in general. Growing up in a Hispanic household, we usually tried to stay away from all of that unless it was absolutely necessary. I still carry some of that mindset today, so being able to feel comfortable with a doctor means a lot to me.I am also a military service member in the Reserve and use TRICARE Reserve Select. My doctor has been excellent throughout the entire process. She was able to navigate the insurance side properly, help resolve issues when they came up, and make the process much easier than I expected. That alone made a big difference because military healthcare and insurance can sometimes be confusing or frustrating to deal with.The care itself has also been outstanding. She is very professional, easy to talk to, and has a great demeanor. Every visit feels comfortable and natural. I never feel rushed, and I feel like she actually pays attention to my recovery and progress. I have been seeing her regularly while recovering from an injury, and the monthly checkups have helped me physically, but also mentally. Knowing that someone is tracking my progress, making sure I am recovering properly, and is there if something gets worse has helped ease a lot of the stress and fear that comes with being injured.For military service members, especially Reservists using TRICARE Reserve Select, I would highly recommend her. She understands how to work through the process, handles the insurance side professionally, and most importantly provides excellent care. Finding a doctor who makes you feel comfortable, takes your recovery seriously, and understands the needs of service members is not always easy. I have had a very positive experience and would absolutely recommend her to other military members looking for a reliable and professional provider.

Love, love, love doctor schafer she is so patient with me I have anxiety and some pretty difficult sensory overstimulation issues and she’s literally the only doctor in 40years that isn’t an anesthesiologist to know how to talk to me and make me feel heard and calm. Amazing doctor!!Dr. Schafer is so incredibly kind and gentle in her approach. She truly makes you feel heard and cared for. She took enough time to make sure she went over all of my concerns, I never felt rushed and she asked if I had any further questions. She seemed you know exactly what the cause of my symptoms are and suggested an easy solution along with a few tests to cover everything. The office staff is so kind and the office is very clean and well kept. It’s small which is nice, I prefer that to the larger offices I’ve been to. It feels more personal.

i really like Dr Julie. She is very kind, thoughtful and a good listener. She does not rush me. She says, “I’m going to start the procedure now,” which I really like. She also presents lots of treatment plan options; from natural to prescription. I don’t have a primary care bc I go to specialist with PPO insurance but I would like to make her my primary care. She’s very smart and articulate.
