About Me

James Fritzell, MD, serves as the Clinical Director of the Small Baby Program in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit at MemorialCare Miller Children's & Women's Hospital Long Beach. He also serves as the Government Liaison, and his a member of the Miller Children's & Women's Foundation Board.

Dr. Fritzell was previously the Medical Director of the NICU at Danbury Hospital in Danbury, CT, before relocating to the West Coast to become a neonatal clinician with Mednax Group of MemorialCare.

Dr. Fritzell earned his medical degree from St. George’s University of Grenada West Indies. He completed his pediatric residency at the University of Rochester in Rochester, NY. His introduction to neonatology began with his fellowship training in neonatology at Brown University Women and Infants Hospital NICU of Providence, RI. During his training, he completed his research with developing a murine bronchopulmonary dysplasia (BPD) model and a unique engraftment of pluripotent stem cells to minimize pathophysiologic features of BPD. He served as chief fellow during his final year prior to taking a position at Maine Medical Center as a neonatal clinician and residency training educational director. He joined the medical group of Onsite Neonatal Partners when he relocated to CT and continued to work with this group first as a clinician and then as a medical director for 5 years prior to relocating to California.

Dr. Fritzell is board-certified in Pediatrics and Neonatal/Perinatal Medicine. He is a fellow of the American Academy of Pediatrics and a member of the California Association of Neonatologists.
