Overview
“Long Beach Alliance for Children with Asthma - Community Health Worker Intervention”
There is increasing evidence that associates the incidence of asthma with air pollution. The cities in the Southern California Air Basin, including the impacted areas of Wilmington, Carson, Compton, and West Long Beach are particularly affected by the ports of Long Beach and Los Angeles and the related goods movement activity. This project is a partnership between a community clinic, The Children’s Clinic Serving Children and Their Families (TCC) and a community asthma coalition, the Long Beach Alliance for Children with Asthma (LBACA). This program will provide high quality, cost effective in-home and clinic based medical care, treatment and health education to 2000 visits per year for patients with asthma in the Wilmington, San Pedro, West Long Beach and Carson area, greatly improving their access to health care and overall health status, resulting in decreased costs to the public health system and increased quality of life for thousands of families.
