About

Having a father who was a hematologist/oncologist helped influence Kenneth Spielvogel, MD’s, choice to enter the field of medicine. Charting his own path, he chose obstetrics/gynecology. His specialties include menopause, hormone replacement therapy (HRT), family planning, infertility, abnormal bleeding disorders, minimally invasive surgery and robotics. He also enjoys counselling patients on health and wellness, including weight loss. Dr. Spielvogel speaks fluent Spanish.

I chose a career in OB/GYN in part for its diversity. I love the journey we take with patients from preconception through delivery and beyond. We deliver primary care as well as being a surgical specialty. Above all else, the opportunity to help others is a privilege. I am so very thankful for having a career where I get to bring health and wellness and even save lives.

After completing a post baccalaureate premed graduate program in 1993, Dr. Spielvogel went on to earn his medical degree from George Washington University’s School of Medicine in Washington, DC, in 1997. While there, he was a member of the OB/GYN Honors Society and was awarded the Dodek Prize for Infertility Research. He spent the next four years completing his residency at the University of Colorado Health Sciences in Denver Colorado, where he received the Chief Award in 2001 for Outstanding Teaching Resident and the E. Stewart Taylor award for Outstanding Resident Research in Reproductive Sciences.

What Dr. Spielvogel enjoys most is being able to connect with his patients. He believes the journey they take together – that of doctor, patient and loved ones – is unique from all other areas of medicine. “Listening. Taking a thorough history. Seeing in their eyes they have found a provider who will take the time to sit and listen is a huge point of satisfaction for me.” He wants his patients to know that under his care, they will never feel rushed, discounted or like a number.

Alongside seeing patients, Dr. Spielvogel also teaches UC Irvine residents. He likes to say that working with these bright medical students keeps him young! They, along with the amazing staff at Long Beach Memorial’s MemorialCare Family Medicine, are constantly opening his eyes to new things. He learns so much from them.

When not at work, Dr. Spielvogel enjoys spending time with his children. He loves to stay fit and enjoys a variety of outdoor activities from mountain biking to ocean sports such as kiteboarding, skateboarding, and paddling.

Dr Spielvogel continues to be a blessing to our family. After being my OB for my first child, and delivering me- to helping re-stitch me up after my second birth (since the delivering Dr did a terrible job), he shows much compassion for his patients. If it weren't for him, I would have left the practice after my second pregnancy. He never rushes you, speaks to you with respect and gives you options to do things your way as long as it is medically safe. He is such an asset to Memorial and to the women in the hospital giving birth. You know he is respected by his colleagues with what they have to say about him.Thank you for all that you do!

Doesn’t rush and takes his time to connect with patients and their family.
