About

One of the nation’s leading colorectal surgeons, Alessio Pigazzi, M.D., is considered among the top experts in the use of laparoscopic, robot-assisted, and open surgical techniques for treatment of complex colon, rectal, and anal cancers and other conditions.

Dr. Pigazzi is among a small cadre of surgeons skilled in the use of cytoreductive surgery with hyperthermic intraperitoneal chemotherapy (HIPEC), which involves heated chemotherapy applied directly within the abdominal cavity following removal of cancerous tumors. He is also noted for research that combines surgery with immediate postoperative chemotherapy to improve cancer survival.

Dr. Pigazzi earned a medical degree and doctorate at Boston University and completed his internship/residency in general surgery at New York-Presbyterian/Weill Cornell Medical Center. He completed fellowships in minimally invasive surgery (laparoscopic, bariatric, and robotic surgery) at Hackensack Medical Center and in colorectal surgery at UCI Medical Center.
