About

Rebekah Shim was born in Los Angeles, raised in Orange County and educated at local universities. She is a nurse practitioner who chose to specialize in breast oncology. “Working and providing care to patients in Southern California means a lot to me,” Rebekah says. “I pursued a career in medicine because it combined my drive to care for others with my passion for science. I discovered my passion for oncology during my clinical preceptorship in my nurse practitioner program. I had the opportunity to work at a comprehensive cancer center and I witnessed how this specialty allowed clinicians to combine clinical expertise with a compassionate, patient-centered approach.” Rebekah’s preceptor recognized the passion she had for cancer care and encouraged her to pursue a career in oncology.

“What really inspires me is the ability to work with patients through their most challenging moments, while helping them navigate complex treatment regimens. My goal is to be fully present in all of my interactions with patients. I want to be an advocate who supports them and addresses all of their needs. My approach to providing care is to always have a patient-centered focus and address not only their physical needs, but their emotional, mental, and spiritual health as well. Building relationships with and getting to know my patients brings me the most satisfaction. I don’t take for granted how special it is to have patients trust me with their health.”

When she is not working with patients, Rebekah indulges her many interests. “I love going to concerts or places where there is live music. I enjoy being in nature and going hiking and camping. I also love taking road trips and discovering new places and the local cuisine.” Her newest passion is scuba diving, and she recently earned her certification. “My love for the ocean was inspired by my dad, who has been scuba diving since I was a baby,” she says. “I hope to travel to more destinations that are known for diving, such as the Galapagos Islands, Indonesia, and Costa Rica.”
