LGBTQ Clinic Cares for the Transgender and Non-Binary Community

LGBTQ individuals can obtain a wide range of services, including gender-affirming hormone therapy, primary care, preventative care and medical screenings. This is a clinic driven by family medicine resident physicians who have additional training and a special interest in the specific needs of the LGBTQ community. We see all patients regardless of insurance type or ability to pay and work with patients to find health care coverage if needed.

Services are delivered in a safe, caring environment free from social stigma. Our staff assists patients with the barriers they may have faced elsewhere, including the scarcity of insurance coverage for this patient population’s specific needs.

“Our team is aware of these injustices,” says Odrin Castillo, D.O., director of engagement, community outreach and diversity, Family Medicine Residency Program, Long Beach Medical Center. “We’re working hard to make improvements in the health and well-being of the LGBTQ+ community so members have a safe medical home.”

What to Expect

We offer primary care services, STD treatment and prevention (including HIV pre-exposure prophylaxis, or PrEP), HIV treatment, contraception counseling, gynecologic services, and procedures (including pap smears, pelvic exams, IUD and Nexplanon placement and removal).

If you're seeking consultation for transgender health services, the first visit to the LGBTQ Clinic is an intake appointment that lasts about one hour. Patients are asked about their gender journey, hormone treatments and goals. After the assessment, their medical provider can offer the services available to them, which may include surgery, mental health, voice coaching and more. The goal is to link patients with resources to address the issues they are experiencing, which may include homelessness and food insecurity.
