Long Beach Medical Center was selected by Gilead Sciences as one of the first expanded access sites on the West Coast to provide the investigational antiviral medication Remdesivir (RDV) as a treatment for COVID-19. In April 2020, Long Beach Medical Center enrolled its first three patients in the international, multicenter clinical study. The principal investigator on this study was Henry Su, M.D.
645 subjects were enrolled. 306 of those subjects were enrolled in COVID-19 related studies. In 2020, the Research Program initiated 22 COVID-19 related trials, enrolling 306 COVID-19 patients, while guiding 16 COVID-19 studies through its pipeline.
Our Research Program provides study opportunities over a broad range of specialty areas for both adult and pediatric patients across MemorialCare, including cancer, infectious disease, respiratory, heart/vascular, neuroscience, intensive care, maternal fetal, pharmacy, orthopedics and more.
