About

Trevor Dunbar, DO’s decision to pursue medicine was rooted in a lifelong fascination with the science of the human body and a genuine desire to improve the lives of those around him. When it came to choosing a specialty, gastroenterology felt like the right fit to him almost immediately. “The idea that what we eat, where we live, and the composition of our gut bacteria can drive conditions like inflammatory bowel disease, colorectal cancer, liver disease and metabolic dysfunction is both scientifically fascinating and clinically actionable,” he says. “It represents a frontier in medicine where lifestyle and biology intersect in ways we are only beginning to fully understand. I am drawn to understanding disease not just at the level of diagnosis and intervention, but through the lens of what disrupted that balance in the first place. I want to practice medicine that asks not just what is wrong, but why - and empower patients to be active participants in restoring their own health.”

Dr. Dunbar finds deep satisfaction in being able to offer patients both answers and action. “When someone comes to me with symptoms that have disrupted their life, often for months or years, and I can perform a procedure, identify the problem, and begin a path toward relief — sometimes all in a single visit — that directness is extraordinarily rewarding,” he states. “In addition, I find equal satisfaction in the longitudinal relationships, walking alongside patients through some of the most challenging chapters of their lives and witnessing their quality of life improve. Knowing that my care makes a genuine difference, not just clinically but personally, is what sustains me in this work every day.”

It is important to Dr. Dunbar that his patients know that he is fully invested in them, not just their diagnosis.

“Meaningful care begins with truly listening. I will take the time to understand not just my patients’ symptoms, but how these symptoms are affecting their everyday life. And I will be honest with them – about what I know and what I don't know – and we will work to find a solution together. My patients can expect both my best clinical judgment and my genuine commitment to their well-being.”

In his time away from the office, Dr. Dunbar prefers spending time with his wife and two young children, watching Lakers basketball, eating good food, and enjoying all that the great outdoors has to offer - whether it be snowboarding at Mammoth Mountain or fishing in the Sierra Lakes.
