About
Stephanie Matza, DO chose a career in medicine because she liked the idea of combining science and the art of helping others. “I was most influenced by my own family physician, who was incredibly patient and understanding,” she says. “I've been fortunate to have had many great mentors who taught me the value of forging strong connections with my patients as well as colleagues.”
As a physician, Dr. Matza’s goal is to provide compassionate, personalized care and make patients feel heard.
“I take a shared decision-making approach when making treatment plans with patients to make sure we're on the same page. I get the most satisfaction from helping patients identify goals regarding their health, building a plan to work towards those goals, and helping guide them to success - whether that's working towards weight loss, recovering from an injury, or improving their cholesterol.”
In addition to her work as a MemorialCare physician, Dr. Matza serves in the Air Force Reserve as a Flight Surgeon. “I'm proud to serve my country and care for service members. Earlier this year, I participated in a training mission to the Virgin Islands where we provided no-cost medical care to the local community during a 10-day health fair.”
Dr. Matza grew up in Jacksonville, FL and spent her teenage years in Seattle, WA. When she isn’t in the office helping patients, she enjoys spending time with family, cooking, running, playing ice hockey, and listening to live music.

It has been a very unpleasant experience with this PCP. She has supposedly been my mother's primary care physician for the past year. We established care with her and made sure to complete all annual visits and regular follow-up appointments.However, she has repeatedly refused to refill my mother's medications, stating that she was not the original physician who prescribed them.My mother is nearly 80 years old and has been taking some of these medications for many years. The only reason we changed PCPs was because her previous physician, who provided excellent care, moved to a location that is now too far away for us to travel to regularly.We made sure that Dr. Matza was fully aware of this situation when my mother established care with her, and we understood that she had agreed to continue managing her healthcare needs.We were surprised and shocked to learn that she would not authorize medication refills. As a result, the pharmacy has had to contact my mother's former physician's office for refills, and thankfully they have continued to assist. Otherwise, my mother would have run out of essential medications.Neither the doctor nor the office appeared to consider the potential consequences of this decision or the impact it could have on my mother's health and well-being. Continuity of care is especially important for elderly patients, and this situation has caused unnecessary stress and concern for our family.
