About Me
Sherief H. Gamie, M.D., Ph.D. is a board-certified clinical nuclear medicine specialist. He serves as Chair, Imaging Department and Medical Director, Nuclear Imaging / PET / CT at MemorialCare Long Beach Medical Center and Miller Children’s & Women’s Hospital in Long Beach, CA .
His clinical interests include targeted applications of radiopharmaceuticals in cancer diagnosis and therapy.
Dr. Gamie received his medical degree from the Alexandria University School of Medicine in Alexandria, EGYPT followed by a residency in radiation oncology and nuclear medicine where he served as chief resident. He then completed a doctorate in radiation oncology / brachytherapy jointly between Alexandria University School of Medicine and University California, Irvine (UCI). Upon moving to the US, Dr. Gamie completed a transitional year internship at Albert Einstein Medical Center / Jefferson University in Philadelphia followed by a second residency in nuclear medicine from University of Southern California (USC) LAC + USC Medical Center. He is board-certified in nuclear medicine by the American Board of Nuclear Medicine.
He served as an Assistant Professor of Radiology at Stanford University and is currently a Clinical Associate of Professor at Keck School of Medicine at USC.
Dr. Gamie’s research focuses on molecular imaging in cancer staging and targeted radiation therapy (brachytherapy & intravascular radiation therapy (IVRT)) and his work has been published in multiple peer-reviewed publications.
He is a Diplomat for the American Board of Nuclear Medicine and Certification Board of Nuclear Cardiology. He is an active member of the American Society for Therapeutic Radiology and Oncology (ASTRO); American Brachytherapy Society (ABS); American Society of Clinical Oncology (ASCO); Society of Nuclear Medicine (SNM); and the Academy of Molecular Imaging (AMI).
Dr. Gamie is dedicated to the belief that cancer is a heterogenous group of diseases that necessitate a multidisciplinary approach to treatment. He has built his practice towards the goal of an uncompromising pursuit for excellent patient outcomes around this concept.
In his spare time, Dr. Gamie enjoys political science readings, attending football & basketball games, watching international soccer and spending time & traveling with wife and 3 kids.
