About Me
Michael K. Benefiel, MD, studied medical school at Rush Medical College in Chicago. He was always interested in becoming a doctor when he was young, but became interested specifically in internal medicine while in medical school. The pure breadth and depth of knowledge required to take care of patients perpetually keeps him interested and on his toes, as there is always something new to learn. Hospitalist medicine specifically interested Dr. Benefiel because each day comes with something new to learn, new people to meet, and complex problems to solve in real time.
Helping to guide patients through their sickest times gives me the most satisfaction, whether that be to relieve symptoms, lend an ear to hear their concerns, or offer a hand to hold in their darkest hours.
Dr. Benefiel grew up in a small, farming town in southern Illinois called Newton and spent his early years in the Midwest, between Newton, St. Louis, and Chicago. Outside of medicine, Dr. Benefiel enjoys spending time with his wife and son, spending most of his free days either at Disneyland or the beach. He also enjoys grilling, trying new restaurants, watching musical stage productions and spending time with family and friends.
