Dr. Barnes is “the” most personable, knowledgeable and caring physician I have ever had the honor to work with over the many years of our Dr. - Patient relationship. She practices in Family Medicine and thus it seems quite natural that she would know us (my spouse and myself) as a family and as individuals. We book most of our appointments as a couple. As we have grown older, one person’s medical issues have become a caregiving load for the other. It helps Dr. Barnes see how situations like that impact us and this leads to treatments for and advice to both of us as appropriate. In my experience it makes sense to bring your significant other to medical appointments, not only for the extra pair of eyes and ears and note taking, but also to allow the Doctor to see the dynamic in your relationship which might inform better treatment recommendations. You have seen doctors who don’t make eye contact and type on a computer for your entire visit (charting)? Doesn’t this leave your feeling less like a person and more like just another ‘thing to be documented’ and rushed out of the office as quickly as possible. You will NEVER have this experience with Dr. Barnes. Yes, she does type notes on her computer, but first she will make a human, caring and empathic connection with you. You’ll feel relaxed in her examining room. You’ll feel ‘heard’ and cared about. I guarantee you will never walk out of her examination room feeling like just another ‘thing to document’. In fact, read the after visit notes that she writes. It will be clear that you were heard, and heard deeply. Please get a MyChart account if you don’t have one. Dr. Barnes usually responds to questions and concerns you put in MyChart messages to her the same day. Sometimes her nurse responds more quickly. I copy her on any test results ordered by a doctor in my medical community. She combs through the data and sends me her advice. This post is long enough, in closing I leave you with these thoughts: Dr. Barnes always greets us with warmth and caring. By the time we see her, she has done her homework and is up to date regarding our current medical situation. This saves a lot of time at our appointment so we can maximize the value of the time we spend with her.

I absolutely adore Dr. Barnes. I had to unexpectedly change PCPs in the middle of the pandemic and, at the time, I thought it was the worst thing to occur. I am now grateful that my insurance made changes forcing me to change PCPs, which lead me to Dr. Barnes. It was a blessing in disguise. I have multiple chronic health conditions and most doctors would not spend the time or level of care that Dr. Barnes has. She is truly a blessing. I only wish I had her as my PCP sooner. She is the first doctor I’ve had that truly cares, goes out of her way to make sure I get the care I need, never dismisses me or my concerns, and is just a genuinely good human being that, if she were not my doctor, I’d want as a friend. Thank you, Dr. Barnes!Special shout out to her nurse, Myra. She’s also amazing and caring as well.
