About
Dr. Jonathan C. Maganis is a board-certified family practitioner with Optum in Long Beach, CA.
His clinical interests include the intersection of cardiology and sports medicine, understanding how physical activity affects cardiovascular health and athletic performance. This involves the prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of heart-related issues in patients, aiming to enhance their overall health while minimizing risks associated with physical exertion.
He received his medical degree from St. George’s University School of Medicine and residency in family practice at Arrowhead Regional Medical Center where he received honors recognition in family practice and pediatrics. Dr. Maganis is board-certified in family medicine by the American Board of Family Medicine.
Originally from Long Beach, Dr. Maganis attended St. John Bosco High School in Bellflower and worked in cardiac clinical research at the MemorialCare Heart & Vascular Institute before entering medical school. Working with Dr. Myrin H. Ellestad, the research – usefulness of p-wave duration to identify myocardial ischemia during exercise testing – was published in The American Journal of Cardiology. The research experience and collaboration with Dr. Ellestad piqued his interest in pursuing a career in medicine.
Outside of medicine, Dr. Maganis prioritizes his time with his wife, son, and daughter going on beach walks and Disney dates. He is an avid sports enthusiast (hockey, golf, basketball, cycling, scuba diving to name a few) with a curiosity for technological entrepreneurships.
