About
John Foley, M.D. grew up in Sioux Falls where he was grateful to have watched both his grandfather and father deliver compassionate care in South Dakota. “My grandfather established a medical practice above the post office in a rural town, where he often served the entire county as the sole physician,” says Dr. Foley. “He filled the roles of family doctor, surgeon, orthopedist, and obstetrician, and inspired my father to become a physician. I have always been drawn to medicine--not because it is in my blood, but because my blood has taught me the importance of improving lives by establishing physician-patient relationships that involve a commitment to service.”
A family medicine physician, Dr. Foley believes in meeting patients where they are currently in their lives and using share decision-making to help them achieve their health goals. “I am most satisfied as a physician when I can support patients in getting where they want to be. This may include a successful treatment plan, but often it can simply be providing clarity and comfort. Watching children and families grow over time is also fulfilling,” he notes.
In his college days, Dr. Foley was a walk-on player for the University of South Dakota Coyotes basketball team of the NCAA Division-Summit League. His lifelong love of dogs stems from his childhood, which he shared with four Great Danes and a Newfoundland. His hobbies include exercise, pursuing a perfectly prepared steak and being with his family.

I was looking for a new Primary Care Physician and organization after my previous provider just shut down the facility I went too and just sent a letter telling me that my February appointment was moved to a random doctor and facility. Before Dr. Foley entered the room, his nurse thoroughly explained the entire procedure to help me understand what to expect and to make me feel at ease. I have complex health issues that involve chronic illness and many surgeries; yet I was pleasantly surprised that I did not feel rushed or dismissed (too often it is the former for a first time appointment). Instead, Dr. Foley was warm and proactive with protocol giving me options and follow up that assured me he listened to my symptoms and medical history without compromise or assumptions, I would recommend his advisement and appreciated his knowledge and time today.
