About Me
Dr. James Kurtzman was born and raised in West Los Angeles. He graduated with distinction from Stanford University with a B.A. in Psychology (with Human Biology emphasis) and was elected to Phi Beta Kappa in his junior year. He received his M.D. from UCSD School of Medicine. He completed his Obstetrics and Gynecology Residency training at the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill and his Maternal Fetal Medicine Fellowship at University of Louisville, and received teaching awards at both universities. He also completed an additional Obstetrical Ultrasound Fellowship at UCSF.
He is board certified in both Obstetrics and Gynecology and Maternal Fetal Medicine. He is a member of the Society for Maternal Fetal Medicine and the American Institute of Ultrasound in Medicine, and he is a Fellow of the American College of Obstetrics and Gynecology. He joined MAGELLA in 1999. His clinical interests and research expertise are in the areas of preterm birth prediction, prevention of preterm delivery, cervical incompetence, and multiple gestations.
Dr. Kurtzman thoroughly enjoys being with his wife and two sons. He is a champion distance runner and was recently recruited to join the USA Track and Field Racewalking Masters team.
