Jacob A Koopman, DO

Jacob Koopman, D.O., attended medical school at Ohio University College of Osteopathic Medicine in Dublin, Ohio. He went on to complete his internal medicine residency at College Medical Center in Long Beach, California. Dr. Koopman decided to pursue internal medicine when he was in third grade, after watching television shows and wanting to be a problem solver. He is the first physician in his family, and says his parents were huge influences for him to pursue his dreams. Dr. Koopman’s favorite teacher from third grade, Mrs. Snyder, was also a large influence on his career and gifted him a scrub cap at his high school graduation, that he keeps to this day.

Dr. Koopman is most satisfied when his patients get better. He also enjoys when his patients and their families understand their diagnosis, receive optimal care, and are supportive of the care plan, even when difficult conversations are made. He believes in providing his patients with the best possible option in a comfort focused approach.

The most important thing for patients to know about me is that I truly care. Becoming a physician was extremely difficult, going through pre-med prerequisites, medical school, residency, a pandemic, and a large amount of student debt. I treat every patient and their family like my own and will always provide honest answers, even if they are tough conversations to be had. I will partner with my patients and their families to provide the best care I can. If I am not the person for the job at the time, I will find the best specialist to refer my patients to.

Dr. Koopman was born in Houston, Texas but grew up in a small town in Wellsville, Ohio, where the city population was only 3,500 and only 46 students in his public high school class. Outside of medicine, Dr. Koopman loves to travel, scuba dive, hike, try new food, work out, and watch live musicals. He will often see Broadway shows at Pantages or Segerstrom any chance he gets.
