About Me

Dr. Sotelo was born in Los Angeles and lived most of his formative years in Tustin. Staying close to home, he graduated from UCLA with a major in Ecology, Behavior and Evolution and continued his medical education at the David Geffen School of Medicine at UCLA. He completed his Emergency Medicine residency at Harbor-UCLA Medical Center. After graduating in 2010, he did not travel far to join the Columbia Emergency Medical Group at Long Beach Medical Center and Miller Children’s & Women’s Hospital Long Beach.

Along with his medical degree, Dr. Sotelo earned a master’s in health policy and management during medical school. He is passionate about the overall scope of medicine, from the impact of providing individual personalized care to delivering the best care to our community as a whole. While at Harbor-UCLA, he served on the Emergency Medicine/Trauma Surgery Quality Improvement committee.  At Long Beach Medical Center, he became a certified Lean Leader and has been an effective Medical Director, and Physician Advisor, for the Clinical Documentation Integrity program at Long Beach Medical Center.

During Dr. Sotelo’s time at Long Beach Medical Center, he has received an award in excellence in patient care and was recently awarded the Golden Apple Award by the Memorial Family Medicine residency program for excellence in teaching.
