A day of fun in the sun, participants were swinging for MemorialCare Saddleback Medical Center Foundation’s Golf Classic on July 15 at Coto de Caza Golf & Racquet Club. From hospital supporters to physicians and representatives from sponsors, including Presenting Sponsor Farmers & Merchants Bank and Farmers and Merchants Trust Company, attendees raised $111,000 to benefit MemorialCare Saddleback Medical Center. This year, the hospital proudly celebrates its 50th anniversary.
“Since its founding, Farmers & Merchants Bank and Farmers and Merchants Trust Company have upheld a steadfast commitment to the community, exemplified by their enduring partnership with MemorialCare and role as the Presenting Sponsor of the Golf Classic for the past 35 years,” said Christy Ward, president of MemorialCare Saddleback Medical Center Foundation. “We are deeply grateful for the Walker family, including our special guest Dan Walker (executive chairman of Farmers & Merchants Bank and president and chairman of the board of Farmers and Merchants Trust Company) and for those who care for our patients and generously support our mission of improving the health and well-being of individuals, families and their communities.”
Highlights of the event included a putting contest, longest drive contest and designated Angels Baseball hole where golfers started with hitting a wiffle ball off a baseball tee to determine which “base” in the fairway they would drop their golf ball from for their first shot.
A special Fund-A-Need hole encouraged golfers to donate in support of the MemorialCare Heart & Vascular Institute at Saddleback Medical Center. Funds will support innovative equipment for diagnosis of cardiac issues, heart attack and stroke prevention education and the help of cardiac patient navigators.
The golfers enjoyed a Bloody Mary bar, breakfast burritos, wings on the course donated by Buffalo Wild Wings and a full barbecue buffet after the round.
At the reception, Ward reminisced about the hospital’s 50 years of compassionate care for the community, sharing a video featuring a grateful patient story from Farmers and Merchants Trust Company Senior Vice President and Investment Officer Matthew Kimmel and his family, who is also the Chair of the MemorialCare Saddleback Medical Center Foundation Board.
Earning both the first-place title and the prestigious Doctors’ Cup Trophy was the foursome of Michael Gault, M.D., Ronald Gim, M.D., Daniel La Mont, M.D., and Daniel Walters, M.D. The coveted Doctors’ Cup Trophy will be displayed in the David Skinner, M.D. Resource Center and Dining Room at Saddleback Medical Center, engraved with the physicians’ names.
Second-place honors went to the foursome representing Farmers & Merchants Bank and Farmers and Merchants Trust Company: Nic Carpino, Dallas Haun, Sean Miller and Daniel K. Walker. The third-place trophies were awarded to a foursome representing American Business Bank: Bob Adams, Seth Drootin, Kenny Knight and David Plourde.
The first foursome to finish the tournament was Nancy Bushnell, Alexa DeSilva, DMSc, PA-C, C.C. Hafner and Monique Hieber. Dean Vasquez of Alvarez Enterprises, a Champion Sponsor, was crowned the winner of the putting contest. Closest-to-the-pin was awarded to Mike Lewis and Monique Hieber. Longest Drive winners were Dallas Haun and Theresa Henry, P.A.
