Paul D Sychangco, MD

Paul D. Sychangco, MD is an internal medicine nocturnist who cares for inpatients at Orange Coast Medical Center. He grew up in a suburb of Chicago and was all set for a career in business finance—until he learned how much he disliked it. “My father is a well-loved physician and surgeon, and I was always resistant to going into medicine,” he says. “My family was very supportive of my decisions, however, always encouraging me to look to the future. I chose to honor him, to ‘take up the reigns,’ and go into medicine. It was the best decision of my life.”

Dr. Sychangco is Board certified in internal medicine and completed a Fellowship in geriatrics and palliative care. “Seeing my patients out and about in their natural environment gives me great joy,” he says. “The hospital setting only shows their ill, vulnerable side. It is great to see them living their life with vigor when they get better and are back to their ‘old selves.’ It is such a blessing when a previous patient recognizes me at the grocery store. They are very grateful for their care. I am very grateful for their health and glad to have made a small contribution toward their road to recovery.”

When he is not caring for patients, Dr. Sychangco used to be very interested and involved in martial arts, motorcycles, culinary arts and acoustic guitar. That has changed. “Nowadays, I am grateful for my lovely wife and daughters whom I take pride in caring for. They are my world now, outside of the hospital.”
