About
Keith Penera is a board-certified podiatrist who enjoys caring for patients in addition to advancing podiatric research and education. Dr. Penera is a Southern California native who completed his undergraduate degree in chemistry at the University of California, Los Angeles. His interest in treating the foot and ankle was spurred from his time shadowing his father-in-law who was a podiatrist. He finds the most satisfying part of being a podiatrist is caring for and connecting with patients. The feet are often overlooked or neglected for a variety of reasons, and the ability to provide sometimes immediate relief for a patient's pain is rewarding.
Dr. Penera graduated from the Ohio College of Podiatric Medicine in 2009. While in podiatry school he served as class president, president of the Pi Delta honor society and on the academic Council. He also served as an anatomy tutor and had the distinct honor of lecturing in lower extremity anatomy. Upon graduation, Dr. Penera completed his 3-year surgical residency at Long Beach Memorial Medical Center with a focus on limb salvage, wound care, and foot/ankle reconstruction. In his final year of residency at Long Beach Memorial, he served as chief resident.
It is important to Dr. Penera that patients know that he treats each and every patient as his own family member. He values the trust his patients have in him to care for their foot and ankle concerns. He takes a patient-centered approach to educating patients and providing evidence-based treatment options. Dr. Penera provides both nonsurgical and surgical options to best fit the patient's needs and goals when it comes to their foot and ankle concerns.
In addition to treating patients, Dr. Penera enjoys conducting research and teaching. He previously served as an assistant professor in the College of Podiatric Medicine at Western University. He also serves as an attending podiatrist for the UCI-Fountain Valley and Long Beach Memorial podiatric residencies. He has authored several peer-reviewed papers in the area of foot and ankle.
When he is not caring for patients and their foot and ankle concerns, Dr. Penera can be found working out, playing golf, traveling with his family and coaching his three daughters various sports teams.
