About
Matthew Coulson, MD, says that he chose a career in pediatrics because he is truly a child at heart. He believes that children are more impressionable than adults and enjoys working with parents to ensure their kids are happy and healthy.
Board certified in pediatrics, Dr. Coulson is humbled by the tremendous amount of trust that his patients put in him as a physician. He strongly believes that physicians have a responsibility to educate their patients and stay up-to-date on preventative medicine.
I love the responsibility, and I love the opportunity to teach. Sometimes education and preventative medicine are more important and more powerful than a written prescription.
Dr. Coulson completed his medical education at St. George's University School of Medicine - West Indies in 2003. He returned to Southern California to finish his internship and residency at Children's Hospital of Orange County in Orange, California from 2004-2006 and was honored to serve as Chief Resident for the following year.
Dr. Coulson was born and raised in Orange County and believes that it is a great place to raise a family. He currently resides in Ladera Ranch with his wife and two sons. He enjoys spending time with his family, and volunteers as a soccer coach and Cub Scout leader. In his free time, Dr. Coulson loves cheering on his favorite sports teams as well as playing soccer and skiing.

Dr. Coulson was the not the primary doctor for my children but we had to take the first walk in appointment and he was great educating my child not to run to a conclusion unless a doctor diagnoses the patient and the symptoms first. And instead explain the observation that he has noticed since he has become ill.

The location, Dr. Coulson and his nurse were great. Very compassionate & caring. I appreciate the new office. Dr. Coulson is an incredible physician and were very thankful and fortunate to have had him as our pediatrician. Thank youThe Regis rep can take a moment to be Simply Better, her interactions with another patient turning paperwork in and myself werent to personable. Another pt was concerned & wanted to ensure her info was correct to prevent any billing issues, filled out the INS correctly or needed anything but she didnt take the time to guide, look or educate, just said "its s fine, its fine". I ended up taking my paperwork in the room with me to finish it, I made some changes and turned it in to another rep on my way out. I truly hope my changes were updated accordingly.

I was amazed at how the Dr handled my newborn as her first appointment went very well. Also, I was surprised at how he handled my toddler who is not currently his patient and included her in the appointment for my newborn. She was shy coming into the office but he allowed her to hear the heartbeat of the newborn. I was relieved that on top of his Dr. duty’s in a routine first check up. He was able to multitask with the oldest sibling and assure her a Dr. office is a safe place to be. He was able to balance our questions, our newborn, toddler (not his patient yet) and explain information of what to expect with a newborn. Overall, the experience of going to a Dr. office was very pleasant and less stressful with this Dr. near.

Amazing!This peds doctor is amazing, my son first saw him in an emergency visit when his other pediatrician was out of town. So now he’s our go to! He’s thorough, kind, and most of all my son felt so comfortable with him he almost said I love you when he was saying goodbye! His office and staff were welcoming and friendly as well, just all around a great experience every time!

Dr Coulson is a fabulous doctor. I wish he would be careful with his weight bias language and use fat or thin instead of obese or skinny. Skinny is the last thing a teenage boy wants to hear.

I brought my daughter for her annual check up andI had the feeling that the doctor tried to end our visit as fast as possible after he found out that my daughter doesn’t have all the vaccines done and I’m not intending to do the ones she is missing that same day.He said that Memorial Care policy is not to accept kids whose vaccines are not up to date and advised us to find a doctor who will be comfortable with it for next visit.It’s very awkward to see the pediatrician who doesn’t feel comfortable around the healthy child. How does he feel when a sick child comes in? If he has such a fixation on vaccines he should also check if adults who are coming with kids are fully vaccinated.So it was just waist of time to get her weight and height measured, which I could do at home and check all percentiles… most of my questions got very general answers without any explanation. When I mentioned a rash on her back he said that it’s just dryness without even looking , when I asked about stuffed nose without other symptoms he said to just give antihistamines, not even getting deeper in when it’s happening, how often , offering an allergy test or at least explaining why he thinks there is nothing to worry about.And it’s just couple of them.This doctor made us feel like we are doing something wrong , that he doesn’t like to see us and doesn’t care to help us. Of course I will be looking for a different doctor for my child.

Pains me to have to write a review like this but I feel that it's only fair to others seeking care for their little one. First visit of our newborn was fine and he answered all our questions and talked with us about vaccines. 2nd visit he started being a bit confrontational with the pressure of vaccine talk and made us both feel extremely uncomfortable. 3rd visit he turned into a "what's the problem?" and "it's not a good fit". "We don't require it, but we won't see you if you don't get every vaccination" In my opinion he has the wrong tactic of pressuring and making a family feel uncomfortable in order for them to get the vaccines to the T (we only opted to skip rotovirus). Says it's "not a requirement". If this was not a problem and not a requirement why is it "better we part ways"? Be upfront about your requirements and learn how to communicate as a dr properly without the direct pressure. In my humble opinion, being confrontational won't get you places. It doesn't matter who's all praising you or how many babies you see... we chose to take a dr that is a better communicator, patient and explained to us without the uncomfortable confrontation.

My going into details here. Our baby went undiagnosed for 3 months until we saw another provider. We had been struggling with the babys feeding and sleeping for so long. During one visit Dr Coulson was unprofessional and in poor temperament. He said "If your child is not feeding what can I do?"Excuse me?! Please do better. Not recommending him.

Terrible Memorial cares app allows you to schedule an e care visit for you or a dependent So I added my daughter went through the prompts. Selected 0 to 17 video call. And scheduled the appointment. Appointment was for 1:15 we received a text stating we are 15 min away and to log in for our video call at 1:20 the office calls stating that my daughters chart didn’t have insurance information soooooo they took that. Placed me on hold Came back and said the doctor said it would be best to go in person but if we would like we can still do the video call and to log back in or stay in the call since we were in the call and he would be right there- by 2:10 we logged out with no one calling or showing up. We had called the office back and were told to stay logged in and they would send a message to the doctor that we are stillllllllll waiting. At 2:20 his office calls and says- since my daughter is over the age 12 she should have her own account - Like what YOUR PAGE AND APP ALLOWED ME TO ADD
