Established in 1946 with the motto “Have a Heart and Help a Child” and the express mission of raising funds to help provide necessary medical care for the children treated by the hospital, the Miller Children’s Hospital Long Beach Auxiliary (MCHLBA) has established an ongoing endowment and given the hospital more than $16,000,000 over the last 78 years. This money has been spent on a myriad of projects from furnishings and equipment to the building and refurbishing of children’s spaces within the hospital campus. Volunteers raise money by operating and staffing the MCHLBA Gift Shop, hosting an Annual Designer Fashion Show, baby photos, and conducting bake sales. In addition to the fundraising, Volunteers coordinate a monthly Birthday Club for the young patients, as well as participate in Child Life activities for the children. Generous contributions from the community have always been welcome.

Gift Shop

The Miller Children’s Hospital Long Beach Auxiliary Gift Shop is in the main lobby of the MemorialCare Long Beach Medical Center. It is operated and staffed by Auxiliary Volunteers who, together, work more than 16,000 hours annually. All proceeds from the sales of a wide variety of merchandise and snacks are used to benefit the children of Long Beach. Annual Designer Fashion Show

Save the date: Saturday, February 28, 2026

The Miller Children’s Hospital Long Beach Auxiliary hosts their Annual Designer Fashion Show in February to highlight and raise money for a specific project chosen each year by the Volunteers. Pledges for projects may span three to five years. The event consists of a designer fashion show, entertainment, silent auction, raffle, and luncheon. With the help of generous sponsors and donations from the community, past events have raised over $60,000 for the children annually. Birthday Club

For a child, being hospitalized is not easy and can be fearful. Monthly, Volunteers from the Miller Children’s Hospital Long Beach Auxiliary ensure children are celebrated for their birthdays. Wrapped gifts, crafts and activities are delivered to the playroom or bedside as a wonderful distraction from their daily medical routines. Birthday gifts and donations are always welcome to help support this uplifting project.

Mission:

The Miller Children’s Hospital Long Beach Auxiliary (MCHLBA) has been serving the children since 1946. The Auxiliary’s mission is to provide charitable funds for the medication, hospitalization, treatment and general improvement in the health of the children in Long Beach and surrounding areas; and to provide funds for the furnishings, equipment and additions at Miller Children’s Hospital Long Beach.

Join us!

Women of all ages join the Auxiliary for many reasons. Many enjoy a sense of purpose while forming life-long friendships. The main role of the Auxiliary is to operate the gift shop and conduct activities to raise funds for the children. Apart from the Gift Shop, fund raising activities include the Annual Designer Fashion Show, bake sales, and raffles. In addition to working shifts in the Gift Shop members also attend monthly luncheon meetings the third Tuesday of each month and related community events. Members also coordinate the Birthday Club activities for patients.

Membership Levels

Active:
Required to participate in philanthropic and fundraising activities, volunteer 150 hours per year (a minimum of three (3) gift shop shifts per month), attend regular luncheon meetings (every third Tuesday), and purchase one (1) ticket to the annual fashion show. Annual dues are $50.

Friend:
Required to volunteer a minimum of one (1) gift shop shift per month and purchase one (1) ticket to the annual fashion show. Friends are encouraged to attend regular luncheon meetings, participate in fundraising events and join committees. Annual dues are $50.

Note: Prospective members are required to complete a volunteer application with the Hospital’s Volunteer Program, attend a volunteer orientation, pass a background check, and pass a TB test. Please allow one month for this process.

The funds raised by the Miller Children’s Hospital Long Beach Auxiliary are used to improve the quality of care and experiences of the young children in the Miller Children’s Hospital. Recent past projects have included funding for: the Cherese Mari Laulhere Children’s Village Adolescent Therapy Gym, refurbishment of Child Life and Pediatric Physical Therapy playrooms, and a variety of equipment for the Tiny Baby Program within the NICU. NHIS Monitoring Units for babies and Pediatric Scales have also been funded. Funds are currently being raised to cover the cost of purchasing a Pediatric ECHMO (Extracorporeal Membrane Oxygenation) machine to support our most fragile patients.

As a 501(c)(3) organization all donations to the Miller Children’s Hospital Long Beach Auxiliary are tax deductible. Checks should be made payable to MCHLBA and mailed to:
