Marilyn Adams lived a life defined by independence, discipline, and a deep commitment to others. With quiet generosity, she cared deeply for those most vulnerable—from children to seniors and individuals nearing the end of life. These values guided her thoughtful approach to both life and philanthropy.

A careful planner and disciplined investor, Marilyn built lasting financial stability with a clear purpose: to one day make a meaningful difference. She remained humble and private, focusing not on recognition, but on how her resources could best serve others.

As a longtime Laguna Woods resident, Marilyn held a deep trust in Saddleback Medical Center. Her experiences as both a patient and community member—along with her relationship with her physician, Dr. Lynn Granlund—reinforced her confidence in the exceptional care provided close to home. She knew her gift would directly benefit the people and community she valued most.

That intention endured throughout her life and culminated in a transformational $6 million legacy gift through her trust to support palliative, hospice, and geriatric emergency care—areas that reflect her compassion for individuals facing serious illness, aging, and end-of-life needs.

Marilyn’s legacy lives on through the Marilyn V. Adams Geriatric Emergency Program and the Marilyn V. Adams Comfort Care Fund at Saddleback Medical Center, expanding specialized 24/7 emergency care for older adults and strengthening comfort-focused services for patients with serious or life-limiting illness.

“Marilyn was a truly remarkable woman—quietly generous, deeply compassionate, and always thinking of others. She believed in supporting those who were most vulnerable, from children to seniors, to those facing end of life. Her gift to Saddleback Medical Center reflects that vision. It’s an honor to help carry forward her legacy, knowing that her kindness will continue to touch so many lives in our community.”

The benefit of Marilyn’s gift will be felt across the community for years to come. For seniors, it means more specialized emergency care designed around their unique needs. For patients nearing the end of life, it means greater comfort, dignity, and compassionate support. For families, it means reassurance that their loved ones can receive thoughtful, expert care close to home. In a community like Laguna Woods, where many neighbors are older adults, Marilyn’s generosity is especially meaningful. Her enduring investment in care will ensure that seniors and those near the end of life will find comfort, kindness, and humanity when they need it most.
