Betty Beltran BSN, Operations Manager of the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) at MemorialCare Long Beach Medical Center, found solace and purpose in the world of healthcare after immigrating to the United States at age 12.

"The transition was incredibly difficult," Beltran recalled. "But those early challenges, like learning a new language and building new relationships from scratch, instilled in me a resilience that has served me well throughout my life."

Even as a young girl, Beltran knew she wanted to make a difference. "I was drawn to nursing because of my desire to care for others and to make a meaningful impact on people's lives," she said.

Her journey at Long Beach Medical Center began as a nursing student, where she quickly fell in love with the hospital's culture of excellence. "I deeply admired the dedication of the staff," she said.

After graduating, she landed a position in the ICU, a role that quickly became her "true calling." "I am incredibly passionate about my job and cannot envision working anywhere else," she emphasized. "MemorialCare's values align perfectly with my own: a commitment to compassionate and high-quality care."

Despite facing personal challenges, including a high-risk pregnancy with triplets, Beltran remained dedicated to her career. "Those were some of the most challenging moments of my life," she acknowledged. "But the kindness and expertise of the [MemorialCare Miller Children's and Women's Hospital] Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) staff helped me navigate that difficult time. Their care not only strengthened my trust in MemorialCare but also deepened my passion for nursing." Beltran has since risen through the ranks, taking on leadership roles within the ICU.

My goal is not just to manage but to lead—to inspire, support, and guide our nurses as they provide exceptional care to our patients.

Reflecting on her journey, Beltran expressed gratitude for the opportunities she has been given. "From my first days in the United States to my current role as a leader in critical care, each experience has shaped who I am today," she concluded. "MemorialCare has been a central part of my journey, and I am honored to contribute to its legacy while continuing to grow alongside the incredible team that makes this health system so special."
