Acute Rehabilitation and Inpatient Acute Care Unit

Volunteers will assist Physical, Occupational, and Speech therapists with various department needs. This role requires a minimum of 4 hours of standing and/or walking.

Requirements:

  • Commit at least 50 hours with a minimum of 4 hours biweekly. Volunteer hours must be completed within 9 months.
  • Letter of recommendation will be considered only after a minimum of 100 hours of volunteer service
  • Must be at least 18 years of age
  • Must be enrolled and completed 2 years of undergraduate program
  • Must be applying to therapy school within 2 years of volunteer service
  • Must have completed minimum of 100 hours of volunteer and/or work as an aide in an outpatient and/or other area of therapy. Proof is required.

When: Monday -Saturday

Available Shifts: 8:00 AM – 12:00 PM and 1:00 PM – 4:00 PM

Cardiac Monitor Unit Support Volunteer

Volunteers will assist clinical staff with the needs of patients and families in the Cardiac Monitoring Unit. This role requires a minimum of 4 hours of standing and/or walking.

Requirements:

  • Must be at least 18 years of age
  • Must commit to at least 3 consecutive months done with at least one 4hr shift per week
  • Must be able to push up to 225 lbs
  • Has excellent communication skills

When: Monday - Sunday

Available Shifts: 7:00 AM – 11:00 AM, 11:00 AM – 3:00 PM and 3:00 PM – 7:00 PM

Diabetes Program Volunteer

Volunteers assist clinical staff with the diabetes Patient Satisfaction survey and diabetes education videos. This role may include visits with patients and families to discuss availability of the diabetes education videos and survey.

Requirements: Must be over 18 years of age or older and commit to 9 months or 150 hours with a minimum of 4 hours per week. Basic computer skills will be needed.

When: Monday - Friday
Available Shifts: 9:00 AM – 11:00 AM or 12:00 PM - 4:00 PM

Labor & Delivery Volunteer

Volunteers assist with welcoming patients and families, provide guest passes and ensure that all guests have proper identification.

Requirements: Must be over 18 years of age or older and commit to 9 months or 150 hours with a minimum of 4 hours per week. Must be comfortable communicating with large groups of people.

When: Monday - Friday
Available Shifts: 8:30 AM – 12:30 PM or 4:30 PM – 8:30 PM

Mother/Baby Escort

Duties: Assist with escorting patients to the exit in a wheelchair. Assist staff with various patient needs in the unit. Must be able to push 225 lbs.

Shift: Saturday only, 11:00 AM – 3:00 PM

Service Support Volunteer

Volunteers welcome and support the various needs of hospital guests. This role also supports the operational needs of the hospital including discharging patients, escort and messenger services.

Requirements: must be 18 years of age or older and able to push up to 225 pounds.

Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays
8:30 AM - 12:30 PM or 12:30 PM - 4:30 PM
 

Tea for the Soul

Tea for the Soul is a program designed just for patient care employees and is a time of intentional pause for self-care refreshing the mind, body, and spirit. The volunteer assisting would help with tea set up and take down, as well as serving tea to employees and offering a friendly face.

Requirements: Must be 18 years of age or older and commit to 9 months or 150 hours, 2-6 hours per week. Must be able to push a tea cart and take kettle (15lbs.) on and off cart.

When: Days vary Tuesday-Thursday

Available Shifts:
1st week/month: 3:00-5:30pm
2nd week/month: Tuesday 2:30-4:30pm, Wednesday 3:00-5:00pm, Thursday 2:30-4:30pm
3rd week/month: Tuesday 2:30-5:00pm, Thursday 1:30-3:30pm
4th week/month: Thursday 3:30-6:00pm

Tea Time at Two

Tea Time at Two is a volunteer program that supports our Patient and Family Centered Care philosophy by providing comfort to visiting friends and families. The Tea Time Volunteer will provide tea and cookies to the families in the waiting areas throughout the Long Beach Memorial.

Shifts:
Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays
2:00 PM – 3:00 PM

Todd Cancer Pavilion - WINGS Volunteer

Volunteers will be working in the Breast Center at the Todd Cancer Pavilion (TCP). Volunteers assist with escorting patients to waiting areas, transport paperwork and support the various needs of the dressing rooms in the Breast Center. Must have excellent communication skills and comfortable interacting with patients.

Requires 9-month or 150 hours commitment.

Todd Cancer Pavilion Volunteer

Volunteers stationed at the ground floor lobby desk greet patients entering the Todd Cancer Pavilion (TCP). The volunteer’s main responsibility is to escort new patients to their doctor appointment in the doctor’s offices on the second or third floor of the TCP. Volunteer may be needed to assist patients needing a wheelchair.

Days and Shifts: Monday, Wednesday, and Friday mornings from 8:00 am – 12:00 pm, and Monday through Thursday afternoons from 12:00 pm – 4:00 pm.

*Requires 9-month or 150 hours commitment
