Acute Rehabilitation and Inpatient Acute Care Unit

Volunteers will assist Physical, Occupational, and Speech therapists with various department needs. This role requires a minimum of 4 hours of standing and/or walking.

Requirements:

  • Commit at least 50 hours with a minimum of 4 hours biweekly. Volunteer hours must be completed within 9 months.
  • Letter of recommendation will be considered only after a minimum of 100 hours of volunteer service
  • Must be at least 18 years of age
  • Must be enrolled and completed 2 years of undergraduate program
  • Must be applying to therapy school within 2 years of volunteer service
  • Must have completed minimum of 100 hours of volunteer and/or work as an aide in an outpatient and/or other area of therapy. Proof is required.

When: Monday-Saturday

Available Shifts: 8:00 AM – 12:00 PM and 1:00 PM – 4:00 PM

Cardiac Monitor Unit Support Volunteer

Volunteers will assist clinical staff with the needs of patients and families in the Cardiac Monitoring Unit. This role requires a minimum of 4 hours of standing and/or walking.

Requirements:

  • Must be at least 18 years of age
  • Must commit to at least 3 consecutive months done with at least one 4hr shift per week
  • Must be able to push up to 225 lbs
  • Has excellent communication skills

When: Monday - Sunday

Available Shifts: 7:00 AM – 11:00 AM, 11:00 AM – 3:00 PM and 3:00 PM – 7:00 PM

Diabetes Program Volunteer

Volunteers assist clinical staff with the diabetes Patient Satisfaction survey and diabetes education videos. This role may include visits with patients and families to discuss availability of the diabetes education videos and survey.

Requirements: Must be over 18 years of age or older and commit to 9 months or 150 hours with a minimum of 4 hours per week. Basic computer skills will be needed.

When: Monday - Friday
Available Shifts: 9:00 AM – 11:00 AM or 12:00 PM - 4:00 PM

Emergency Department Volunteer

Volunteers assist clinical staff with the needs of patients and families in the Emergency Department. This role requires four hours of standing or walking.

Requirements: Excellent communication skills. Must be over 18 years of age or older and commit to 9 months or 150 hours with a minimum of 4 hours per week.

When: Monday – Friday, Some weekends available.

Available Shifts: 11:00 AM - 9:00 PM

Family Liaison Outpatient Surgery Volunteer

Volunteers will communicate with families in the waiting area, provide comfort and support. This role requires 4 hours of standing and/or walking.

Requirements: Must commit to 100 hours done with at least one 4hr shift per week

  • Must be able to push up to 225 lbs
  • Demonstrate excellent communication skills
  • Previous experience in a hospital environment

Shifts: Monday - Friday
8:30 AM - 12:30 PM or 12:30 PM - 4:30 PM

Labor & Delivery Volunteer

Volunteers assist with welcoming patients and families, provide guest passes and ensure that all guests have proper identification.

Requirements: Must be over 18 years of age or older and commit to 9 months or 150 hours with a minimum of 4 hours per week. Must be comfortable communicating with large groups of people.

When: Monday - Friday
Available Shifts: 8:30 AM – 12:30 PM or 4:30 PM – 8:30 PM

Mother/Baby Escort

Duties: Assist with escorting patients to the exit in a wheelchair. Assist staff with various patient needs in the unit. Must be able to push 225 lbs.

Shift: Saturday only, 11:00 AM – 3:00 PM

Must be over 18 years of age or older

Outpatient Rehabilitation (Balance/Vestibular, Orthopedic, Neurologic)

Volunteers will assist Physical, Occupational, and Speech therapy staff in our department. This role requires a minimum of 4 hours of standing and/or walking.

Requirements:

  • Commit at least 50 hours with a minimum of 4 hours biweekly. Volunteer hours must be completed within 9 months. Letter of recommendation will be considered only after a minimum of 100 hours of volunteer services.
  • Must be at least 18 years of age
  • Must be currently enrolled in education program and have completed 2 years of undergraduate program
  • Must be applying to therapy school within 2 years of volunteer services
  • Strongly recommended applicants have previous experience volunteering or working as an aid in other rehab settings
  • Must be compassionate and engaged in learning about rehabilitation

When: Monday - Friday

Available Shifts: 8:00 AM – 12:00 PM and 12:00 PM – 5:00 PM

Patient Relations Department Volunteer

Volunteers will enhance the patient and family experience by conducting patient courtesy rounds, document interactions and providing clerical assistance to the patient relations team.

Requirements:

  • Must be over 18 years of age
  • Commit to 9 months or 150 hours with a minimum of 4 hours per week
  • Excellent analytical and communication skills
  • Must be assertive and comfortable speaking with patients at the bedside.

When: Monday-Friday

Available Shifts: 8:00 AM – 12:00 PM and 12:00 PM – 4:00 PM

Pet Therapy Volunteers (Adult Patients)

This program is for individuals who are interested in working with adult patients. Volunteers engage with adults one on one in their rooms. Volunteers are oriented to several hospital units and are trained so that they can work independently during their volunteer time.

Requirements: All volunteers must be 21 years of age or older, have extensive experience with working with adult patients, and be prepared to perform physical duties such as lifting and walking long distances. Pets must be certified through Pet Partners and provide a copy of certification. Volunteers are required to provide copies of shot records which include: Rabies, Parvo, Distemper, Hepatitis & or DA2pp (Combo vaccine with Distemper, Hepatitis, &Parvo). All Pets must be bathed before hospital visits.
