Vagus Nerve Stimulation

This is used to treat epilepsy and treatment-resistant depression using an implantable device. The device is implanted in the chest under the skin and is connected to the left vagus nerve by a thin wire. Electrical signals are sent through the vagus nerve to the brainstem and to specific areas in the brain.

Valve Repair vs. Replacement

The decision to repair versus replace the aortic valve is based on complex factors, as well as the experience and results of the particular treatment center.

Valvuloplasty

Valvuloplasty is a minimally invasive procedure performed to increase the opening of a narrowed or defective valve in the heart. This procedure is performed in a cardiovascular catheterization laboratory.

Varian Edge

The Varian Edge™ radiosurgery system works by using highly focused beams of powerful radiation to overwhelm cancer cells.

Varicose Veins

Varicose veins are dilated veins that have lost their valve effectiveness and become elongated, bulged and thickened. Veins carry blood from the capillaries to the heart. In the leg, this means the blood has to flow upward, against gravity. These veins have one-way valves to prevent the blood from flowing backwards.
