Gastrointestinal Cancer Program

Our Gastrointestinal (GI) Cancer Program offers the latest in cutting-edge technology, diagnostics and advanced treatments. We care for patients suffering from a wide range of gastrointestinal cancers including: Esophagus, Stomach, Colon and rectum, Pancreatic and Liver.

Gynecological Surgery

The robotic surgical system provides breakthrough minimally invasive surgical capabilities.

Hormone Therapy

Chemicals called hormones are produced in glands in the reproductive system, in the ovaries for women and the testicles for men. Cancers most commonly treated with hormone therapy are breast and prostate cancer.

Hyperthermia

Hyperthermia is a specialized therapy that involves heating selected tumors to 106 to 108 degrees for up to one hour. Hyperthermia can be delivered in combination with radiotherapy.

Immunotherapy

Biotherapy (also called biological therapy or immunotherapy) is a treatment to activate or repair the ability of the body’s immune system to fight cancer, rheumatoid arthritis, infections, and other diseases.

Infusion Services

Designed to foster health and wellness, our infusion service centers are equipped with six recliners, four televisions with head sets and all the amenities to make for a private, safe and comfortable area. At the Integrated Cancer Medicine Program at the Cancer Institute at Long Beach Medical Center, we empower our patients to achieve the best quality of life throughout their cancer journey by promoting wellness in mind, body and spirit.

Intensity Modulated Radiation Therapy (IMRT)

As part of the cancer care multidisciplinary team, our radiation oncologists coordinate every aspect of care with surgeons and pathologists to help decide the best course of treatment for each patient.

Interventional Oncology

Interventional oncology is a field of medicine and a sub-specialty of interventional radiology that utilizes imaging, including X-ray, CT, ultrasound, MRI and PET, to perform minimally invasive procedures for the diagnosis and treatment of cancer.

Intraoperative Radiation Therapy

Intraoperative radiation therapy (IORT) integrates a lumpectomy (the removal of a tumor from the breast) and radiation treatment into a single surgery. During IORT, a precise, concentrated radiation dose is delivered to the tumor immediately after it’s removed.

Kyphoplasty (Interventional Oncology)

Patients who have metastatic cancer in their spinal bones can get compression fractures of their vertebral bones. Many of these patients are not surgical candidates and can experience debilitating pain.

Lymphedema Therapy

Lymphedema rehabilitation focuses on teaching patients how to effectively manage lymphedema or secondary lymphedema on an independent basis through intensive one-on-one training. Individual sessions can last 60 to 120 minutes per day, depending on the severity of the condition.

Optune for Glioblastoma

SpaceOAR Hydrogel is an absorbable polyethylene glycol (PEG) based injectable material that creates space between the rectum and prostate in patients undergoing radiation treatment for prostate cancer.

Pre-Operative Embolization of Tumors

Certain tumors consist of a rich blood supply, which makes surgery risky. By pre-operatively blocking a blood vessel (embolization), the blood supply is closed off, which allows the tumor to be removed in a safer setting.

Radiation Oncology & Therapy

Accredited by the American College of Radiology, the Thomas and Dorothy Leavey Radiation Oncology Center at the MemorialCare Todd Cancer Institute (TCI) at Long Beach Medical Center offers a comprehensive program providing a range of radiation therapy options for patients.
