A pre-participation physical examination - also known as a sports physical - is an overall check-up to see if an individual’s health and fitness are suitable for the particular sport they play.

During this physical, a health care provider will look for any previous injuries or diseases that may make it unsafe for an individual to participate in a particular sport.

These are different from regular physicals and should not be a substitute for an annual physical. Be ready to answer questions regarding previous hospitalizations, illnesses, or injuries that may make it unsafe to play.

It is recommended that a sports physical be conducted six to eight weeks prior to the start of the sport’s season just in case any conditions need to be treated.

You can get a sports physical at any of our Urgent Care sites (by appointment only). Call our urgent care location nearest you to get information regarding specific hours for these examinations./p>
