Gestational diabetes is a condition that occurs during pregnancy and diabetes has never been previously diagnosed. Women who are pregnant may experience high blood sugar (glucose) levels. It is estimated that approximately 10 percent of pregnant women develop gestational diabetes.

Healthy Beginnings Program

Helping you manage gestational diabetes and give your baby the best possible start.
The Healthy Beginnings program provides expectant mothers with the knowledge and skills to control their diabetes and achieve a healthy pregnancy. Led by our expert registered dietitians who are also certified diabetes educators, our program follows the California Diabetes and Pregnancy Program’s Sweet Success Guidelines for Care.

The 90-minute introductory appointment with one of our registered dietitians includes:

• Gestational diabetes overview
• Blood glucose monitoring with a glucometer*
• Nutrition goals and individualized meal plans
• Exercise goals
• Carbohydrate counting
• Lifestyle changes to help minimize the risk of developing Type 2 diabetes
• Telehealth appointments are available

*Your physician must provide a prescription for a glucometer and test strips. Please pick these items up from your pharmacy and bring them to your introductory appointment. Physician referrals for our Healthy Beginnings program are also required.
