As a receiving center, paramedics bring patients with higher-risk heart attacks (ST-elevation myocardial infarction) directly to the Emergency Department at Orange Coast Medical Center. The hospital uses a trauma-team approach to treating heart attack victims. Patients are rapidly assessed and triaged. Then, dependent upon the patient's diagnosis and condition, he or she may receive angiography, angioplasty or even bypass surgery, if necessary.
