Ambulatory Blood Pressure Monitoring (ABPM) is a battery-operated, portable device that can be attached to your belt. The device connects to a cuff that is placed around the arm and under clothing. The ABPM device allows blood pressure to be monitored by taking automatic blood pressure measurements at precise intervals during a 24 to 48 hour time period. ABPM may be performed if a person has borderline high blood pressure (hypertension) or blood pressure that is hard to control. ABPM can help determine effects of medications on blood pressure, and risk for cardiovascular disease.
