The morning marine layer gave way to sunshine just in time for golfers to hit the greens at El Niguel Country Club in Laguna Niguel on June 13 for the 8th annual Corporate Golf Classic.
Hosted by Saddleback Memorial Foundation, the tournament raised $65,000 (net) in support of the I’MAGINE space redesign project at Saddleback Memorial Medical Center. The I’MAGINE project will reconfigure areas of the hospital for more fluid integration of space in the hospital’s surgical and nursing recovery units, creating additional private rooms and bringing in advanced equipment and technology.
“Our commitment to our patients requires us to think about care in progressive ways,” says Steve Geidt, CEO of Saddleback Memorial. “With this project, we are constantly focusing on the patient-family experience from beginning to end, and how we can make our patients more comfortable and at ease while they recover.”
The lush18-hole course at El Niguel provided the backdrop for a fun, challenging event — chaired by Larry Lambert of The LBL Group — with 119 physicians, corporate partners and other supporters of Saddleback Memorial participating.
In the tournament, a new foursome took the top prize this year: Representing TideRock Financial of Aliso Viejo were Simon Reeves, Justin Miller, Gannon Giguiere, and Aaron Watts. Coming in second place was a crew of familiar Saddleback Memorial faces: Steve Geidt; Tony Struthers, Vice President, Administrator; Hugo Folli, Vice President of Ancillary Services; and Bruce Channing, Chair of the Board of Directors. Stepping into third place was the foursome of Scott Seifert, Keith Herbert, Kevin Ludas, and John Ahlstrom.
Contests always prove to be a player favorite, and this year was no different. Tony Struthers was crowned the winner of the putting contest, David Juice of South Coast Radiological Medical Group won the closest-to-the-pin contest for the men, and Danielle Bowen claimed the trophy for the women. Bragging rights for longest drive went to Greg Bush, M.D., for the men and Lori May for the women. The team from McKesson won the drive-a-wedge contest.
A new contest hole was the chuck-a-club, where all players threw a club as far as they could down the fairway, and the team teed off from the spot of the farthest club. Derek Newcomer of Beacon Pointe Wealth Advisors threw his club the longest distance to win the contest for the men, and Allison Hillgren, also of Beacon Pointe, took the prize for the women.
“It’s wonderful that we have participation and support from so many companies and organizations affiliated with Saddleback Memorial,” said Cecilia Belew, president of Saddleback Memorial Foundation. “They all understand the big picture, that in the end, this is all for the patients of Saddleback Memorial.”
