Dr. Boswell is about as local a boy as you can find. Born at the old Seaside Hospital, which has moved and is now is Long Beach Memorial Medical Center.
He went to Poly High School and attended UC Irvine. Dr. Boswell attended Loma Linda Medical School, followed by an Internship at L.A. County Hospital. He completed his ophthalmology residency at UC Irvine.
Dr. Boswell left Southern California for a 2 year Fellowship in Disease and Surgery of the Retina and Vitreous, at Wills Eye Hospital, from 1982-1984.
His wife Jan and he had their first child, Alicia, while in Philadelphia. She was born at Thomas Jefferson University Hospital. She is now a graduate student at UC San Diego.
He, then, returned home to join Dr. Carson and Dr. McBeath in 1984. Dr. Boswell has lived in Long Beach since his return and his son, Morgan was born at Long Beach Memorial Medical Center.
Dr. Boswell’s career in retinal diseases coincided with the development of vitreous surgery, the AIDS epidemic, and now the era of intraocular injection to treat Infection, Diabetic Retinopathy, Inflammatory Diseases and Macular Degeneration. It continues to be a marvelous experience for him.
On many days, many patients of Dr. Boswell are more concerned with how he is doing than about their own recovery. Dr. Boswell appreciates the opportunity to give back to our city and frequently sponsors community events such as Long Beach Dragon Boat Race or Irvine Blind Mud Run. Dr. Boswell has a genuinely kind heart and upbeat spirit; it is a true pleasure to be his colleague, patient or friend.
