About Me

Amr Kouchouk, M.D. was born in Cairo, Egypt and moved to the US at a young age. He grew up in McLean, Virgnia - a suburb of Washington D.C. He attended McLean High School where he played soccer, was captain of the track team, and went on to run Division I Track at the University of Virginia.

He graduated “magna cum laude” with a degree in Economics. He went on to medical school at Virginia Commonwealth University School of Medicine - MCV (Richmond, VA), and completed his internship at Christiana Care Hospital (Newark, DE). He completed his ophthalmology residency at George Washington University (Washington, DC) - he was chosen as Chief Resident, and had the distinction of performing the highest number of cataract surgeries by any resident in the program’s history. He then went on to complete an elective 1-year Cornea/Refractive Surgery Fellowship at the University of Pittsburgh (Pittsburgh, PA) with Dr. Deepinder Dhaliwal, MD LAc - who is widely regarded as one of the top cornea/refractive surgeons. He holds the distinction as being the only fellow at the University of Pittsburgh to become certified in Implantable Collamer Lens (ICL) surgery - one of the newest refractive surgeries available, and was again amongst the highest in total number of surgeries performed in the program’s history, a testament to his surgical skills. He is a member of the American Academy of Ophthalmology (AAO), the American Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgery (ASCRS), and the International Society of Refractive Surgery (ISRS).
