Palliative Care Program

Supportive Care, also called palliative care, involves a variety of resources to improve the quality of life for a patient with a chronic or serious illness by addressing their needs for comfort and supporting patients on their journey to live well. The multi-disciplinary Palliative Care Program at Todd Cancer Institute is unique in that in that it begins at diagnosis and is part of the care plan, whether the patient is at home or in the hospital, throughout cure or bereavement in a setting where healing can occur. From the time of diagnosis, patients and families are welcome to ask their health care team questions about palliative care.

Our Inspiration

Image of Kenny Kozikowski, the patient who inspired The Bucket List projectLong Beach resident Kenny Kozikowski, 48, who was diagnosed with metastatic (Stage 4) colorectal cancer in December 2011, was the first recipient of this program. Kenny’s bucket list started the project, but one of his wishes was to create a lasting legacy and help all patients in the Palliative Care Program at Long Beach Memorial fulfill their bucket lists. Kenny truly made an impression on everyone he came in contact with and for that reason The Bucket List Project was created to honor his memory and to help others in a similar situation.
