Michael A. Pahl, MD

Michael Pahl, M.D., is the chairman of orthopaedic surgery at MemorialCare Long Beach Medical Center. He is board-certified and fellowship trained in sports medicine and shoulder surgery. Dr. Pahl specializes in the treatment of complex shoulder injuries including shoulder replacements and advanced arthroscopic techniques. He is the first surgeon in Los Angeles County to use computer navigation for his shoulder replacements.

Dr. Pahl’s other areas of interest include sports medicine, knee injuries and orthopaedic trauma. He performs arthroscopic, reconstructive and replacement surgery of the shoulder and knee. He also focuses on sports medicine, conservative and preventative treatments of shoulder, knee and sports injuries and is trained in the treatment of orthopaedic trauma including operative and non-operative fracture management.

Dr. Pahl has embraced technology and its impact on joint replacement surgery. He uses GPS computer navigation for shoulder replacements and Mako Robotic-Arm Assisted Surgery for knee replacements. These technologies allow precision surgery and enable the surgeon to precisely align and place implants.

Dr. Pahl is a Southern California native. He earned his undergraduate degree with honors from Chapman University. He earned his medical degree from Jefferson Medical College in Philadelphia. He did a research fellowship and completed his residency in orthopaedic surgery at Thomas Jefferson University Hospital in Philadelphia and went on to serve as chief resident. During his time there, he trained under world-renowned surgeons of the prestigious Rothman Institute.

After completing his residency, Dr. Pahl received fellowship training in Sports Medicine at the Southern California Center for Sports Medicine and the Memorial Orthopaedic Surgical Group. Following his fellowship training Dr. Pahl was invited to join the Memorial Orthopaedic Surgical Group.

Dr. Pahl has authored numerous book chapters and peer review journal articles and has presented at several national conferences.

Dr. Pahl has extensive experience caring for sports teams and working with athletes. He has worked with a wide variety of athletic teams during his training including the Philadelphia Eagles, Philadelphia Phillies, Philadelphia Wings, WWE professional wrestling and the Philadelphia Crush. He also has cared for several different local high school teams and has served as team physician for California State University, Long Beach and worked with the World Surfing League.

He primarily sees patients at Memorial Orthopaedic Surgical Group in Long Beach and operates out of Long Beach Medical Center and the MemorialCare Surgical Center of Long Beach. He also sees patients part-time at the Ridgecrest Regional Hospital in Ridgecrest, California.

In his free time, Dr. Pahl enjoys spending time with his family and participating in water sports including surfing, paddle boarding, swimming, scuba diving and boating.
