Katherine M. Kuniyoshi, MD

Dr. Katherine Kuniyoshi is a board certified neonatologist. She earned her medical degree from University of Debrecen Medical and Health Science Center and completed her fellowship at the University of California Irvine.

Dr. Kuniyoshi’s main focus in medicine has always been the most vulnerable: Newborns.  Whether they were term babies with risk of infection or micro preemies that required extensive support, babies were and are her passion. Not only are the babies important, however, but also the relationships that develop between the NICU staff and parents, which is a crucial component to the baby’s overall success.

When Dr. Kuniyoshi is not in the NICU, her main area of clinical focus is nutrition in the NICU. She has been working closely with our team of Registered Dietitians and Lactation Consultants to optimize nutrition in the NICU, especially for the smallest of preemies. Several quality improvement projects are currently underway. She has also formed an NEC Taskforce comprised of NICU RNs, Dietitians, Pharmacists and a Lactation Consultant to reduce the incidence of NEC (Necrotizing Enterocolitis). NEC is a severe intestinal infection that can affect both premature and term babies.

Dr Kuniyoshi is also an avid Foodie, loves to travel, and spend quality time with her family.
