According to the National Cancer Institute, more than 224,000 new cases of lung cancer will be diagnosed this year, and nearly 160,000 people will die of this disease. The greater Long Beach/Los Angeles area ranked in the top five as one of the United States worst cities for air quality, according to the American Lung Association’s State of the Air 2014 Report. Put these two facts together and the need for lung cancer care in Long Beach has never been more in demand, which is why the MemorialCare Todd Cancer Institute at Long Beach Medical Center opened its new Lung Nodule Center on Nov. 3. The new center is not only a vital resource for those who have a high risk for lung cancer, but helps those diagnosed with lung nodules get ahead of lung cancer.
