The next time your physician writes you a prescription for a vaccine, you have the option of making an appointment at the Vaccine Hub, a new addition to the MemorialCare. The goal of the Vaccine Hub is to provide convenient, affordable vaccines to the community with convenience similar to local retail services in order to reduce diseases in the Southern California area.
The Vaccine Hub provides routine vaccines such as chicken pox, whooping cough and measles, as well as travel and special vaccines. Two Vaccine Hub sites are now open to take patients with vaccine prescriptions as recommended by the CDC vaccination schedule. The North Vaccine Hub is located at 450 E. Spring St., Ste. 11 Long Beach, CA 90806. The South Vaccine Hub is located at 23521 Paseo de Valencia, Ste. B15 Laguna Hills, CA 92653.
“We believe that vaccines are effective,” says David Michalik, DO, co-medical director, Vaccine Hub, “Since the recent measles breakout and now that schools will be requiring vaccinations, the need is higher. It seemed appropriate to have the ability to easily provide vaccines to people who need them at an affordable cost.”
Vaccines have been studied to be effective in preventing the spread of infectious diseases. When you get vaccinated, you are protecting yourself as well as others around you from contracting infectious diseases. It's important to stay up-to-date on immunizations to protect yourself before an outbreak of a disease.
Another unique service provided by the Vaccine Hub is a travel consult with an infectious diseases specialist. During this consult, the physician helps patients traveling nationally or internationally determine which vaccinations they need, if they need medications and addresses health precautions that might need to be taken before or during their trip.
“Special considerations need to be made when travelling that a patient may not know about,” says Michalik. “By providing these consults, we hope to make the patient feel more informed about their health during travel.”
The Vaccine Hub currently is scheduling appointments on Tuesdays and Thursdays. Cash and most major credit and debit cards are accepted. Patients are provided with an immunization record card for their personal records. To schedule an appointment and find out more information about the vaccines provided, call (562) 933-0298.
